Terry's Story

Terry English is recognised as one of the worlds leading armourers with a career spanning well over 50 years.
He began his career as an armourer in 1962 when he was employed as a theatrical metal worker by L&H Nathans on Drury Lane, Covent Garden, London, and then later on at Burnhams & Angels.

He was first tasked with creating swords, crowns, neck chains, and military orders amongst many other things.

L & H Nathans also owned an old collection of armour that they rented out continuously to theatres and film studios, which were quite often damaged, sometimes extensively, and were in constant need of repair, Terry was tasked with performing these repairs and through this learned not only how to repair armour, but also how to make it.

He left L & H Nathans and began with renovating original armour owned by the Tower of London and various other extremely valuable private collections, this allowed Terry to perfect the art of creating armour and this set him on the path to specialise in the creation of armour for Film and Television and the greater entertainment industry as a whole in 1972, with the creation of his company English Arms & Armour.

Terry is also an accomplished designer of armour and has used both of these skills to great effect in productions such as Jabberwocky and Excalibur.

Working mainly in lightweight aluminium for film and Television productions, he also produces armour in copper, steel, and brass and he can reproduce armour in plastic and other materials to order in any quantity required.
